*Learning centres and ICT learning centres
The government-sponsored learndirect is setting up a network of some 1,000 new learning
centres around the country by March 2001. Based in libraries, shopping centres and other
handy places, they will offer all kinds of learning, from basic skills to advanced IT courses.
They will also aim to link up with homes and workplaces to make learning more accessible.
In addition, a network of around 700 ICT learning centres will be set up across England, to
improve access to ICT for all.
**New Deal 50 plus
New Deal 50 plus offers support for over-50s seeking work, and a training grant of up to
£750 for participants who find work. Local Jobcentres or the New Deal information line
(0845 606 26 26) can provide details.
Alternatively, those in work might consider asking their
employer about work-related training.
