What's out there?

What's out there?

As a learning provider or local Learning Partnership, looking to fill an apparent gap for older learners, you may find it makes sense to get the whole picture of what exists locally – whether formal or community-based.

A mapping exercise can help to uncover, analyse and publicise the activities available locally. It could result in:

  • a local directory of opportunities, for wide circulation

  • better use of resources, and opportunities to access new resources

  • dialogue and partnerships between service providers and older people’s forums

  • development of provision.

For the 1999 UN Year of Older Persons, NIACE produced a mapping tool and guidelines to help undertake a local mapping exercise. Copies are available from ACE Distribution on 0181 765 7203.
