Learning City Network Conference

Learning Partnerships for Regeneration took place on 7/8 March. The evening reception on 7 March at the House of Commons was a great success. Baroness Blackstone addressed the delegates with a message of support for learning communities.

Learning Communities: towns, cities and regions in the information society

Learning towns, cities, regions, communities: the terms are increasingly common but does anybody know what they do or, more importantly, what difference they make. A new survey by the Learning City Network - the network for learning communities - aimed at policy makers and practitionners, will provide a set of case studies of the most interesting developments in the UK (mainly) and Europe. To be published early September, it will also contain a brief account of the development of the learning city movement plus a Manifesto for Urban Learning. This sets out the key elements for raising the profile of learning in towns and cities of the 21st century.

Sheffield Partnership for Lifelong Learning (SPELL)

Sheffield Partnership for Lifelong Learning (SPELL) - was a project (partly funded by DfEE) which aimed to widen participation in learning activities throughout Sheffield. It took a city-wide approach to marketing and promotion of learning and, since the inception of the Sheffield Learning Partnership, is currently delivering outreach work in the North East area of Sheffield.
