Priorities for early action

We propose to:

  • secure major improvements in retention and achievement in further education;

  • work with TECs to raise standards and effectiveness;

  • work with OFSTED, the FEFC and LEAs to set and monitor standards for adult education arranged through LEAs;

  • improve and harmonise inspection arrangements post-16 and the monitoring of performance across schools, further education and training, including setting in place an independent Training Inspectorate; and

  • monitor the implementation of the Dearing committee's recommendations on quality and standards within higher education.
