Welcome to Empowering the Learning Community. This is a joint initiative led by the Department for Education and Skills and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Drawing on the skills and experience of a range of partners, we plan to improve library, museum & archive services for all. The Steering Group is taking forward the recommendations that public and educational libraries in communities or defined geographic areas should establish co-operative arrangements to improve services to their users, and flexibility in funding arrangements for libraries should be examined. The devolved assemblies may have other initiatives or arrangements. Anyone from the UK may attend events (subject to availability); and access the website or any research/good practice materials we may produce.
