Title: The Learning Age: Towards a Europe of Knowledge

Aims: To further the development of practical strategies and coherent application of policies at European, state, regional and institutional levels which:

maximise the contribution lifelong learning can make:

to employability, adaptability and competitiveness
to promoting social inclusion
to active citizenship

make the most creative use of new information technologies to increase access to learning opportunities throughout life.

Objectives:
To further discussion of the emerging policy priorities.
To highlight good practice throughout the European Union.
To identify issues for further work.
The conference will aim to achieve this through the programme outlined later in this booklet and by securing effective collaboration between the European Commission, Member States, the European Parliament, social partners and non-government organisations. UK Government policies and initiatives will be used as case studies and there will also be a volume of conference papers and reports published.
