Welcome to the Home Pages of the 1998 UK Presidency of the European Union Lifelong Learning Conference - The Learning Age: Towards a Europe of Knowledge.

Manchester's Launch The conference was organised as part of the Department for Education and Employment's (DfEE) programme of events during the UK Presidency of the European Union and it took place in Manchester from 17th to 19th of May 1998 and brought together leading delegates and speakers from across Europe.

The transcripts of the conference are fully available on these pages from the Opening Addresses and the scene setting of the Context and Challenge through all the Plenary Speeches and all the Workshops to the Conclusions. There is also an edited version of the conference's main panel discussion in Dialogue.
