Introduction by Naomi Sargant I have been engaged both in adult learning and technology at the Open University and in broadcasting. In this session we try to focus on what broadcasting can do very precisely for adult learning. When we think of the power of broadcasting, we recognise that it is available in most countries as the key way of reaching large numbers of people, free at the point of use in their own homes. We do not use it as much for our purposes as we could do. In the transition period, before all the new technologies become freely available, and in the period before digital is available to more than perhaps 20% of us, our challenge is to use broadcasting as much and as strongly as we can, while we plan for that more complicated future.
