- The Big Issue in the North (Voluntary Group, Leeds, £83,628) - wishes to work in partnership with education providers in Leeds to develop a citizenship course, creative writing courses and training in customer care for vendors
- St George's Family Centre (£9,574) – the aim of the project is to assess and develop personal skills/self confidence and assess/address the basic skills of local families in a deprived and disadvantaged area in Calderdale through the creation of a Community Café.
- PROMISE (£26,000) – to provide learning opportunities for unemployed people in Sheffield who are engaged in amateur dramatics and performances and to support this target group to acquire basic skills, self presentation and survival skills.
- Hull Chinese Cultural Centre (Voluntary Group, £55,812) - plan to work with Beverley College to develop a programme of practical learning in citizenship, health etc. with and for residents and other members of the Chinese community in Hull
- Yorkshire Arts Circus (Voluntary Group, Castleford, £33,027) - an arts based organisation, proposes to work with families in four areas to develop their skills and confidence by writing community books for adults and children
National/multi-site - Total Funding £311,742
- Quest (Charity, £33,900) - a voluntary organisation working in community development seek to develop a programme of residential and on line training for people engaged or interested in working on community newsletters
- Thrive (Voluntary Group, £90,000) - wishes to use results of their planning grant to develop training for staff and learning opportunities for adults with learning difficulties involved in horticultural schemes and projects across the country
- The Prince's Trust Volunteers (Voluntary Group, £66,844) - seek to pilot a project to add basic skills training to the package of training they have developed for volunteers. They hope to transfer this model across schemes working in London, Manchester, the East and West Midlands and Tyne and Wear in areas where there is evidence that lack of basic skills is a barrier for young people to take up learning or gain employment
- School for Social Entrepreneurs (Charity, £35,000) - seek to develop a programme for individual mentor support and training for people wishing to work in local communities to support other members of their community
- Girls' Friendly Society in England and Wales (Voluntary Organisation, £85,998) - proposes to pilot a health/basic skills programme for young women in a project they have developed in Skegness
