Evaluation of Round 5 of the Adult and Community Learning Fund

In 2001-2 NFER carried out a study to investigate the effectiveness of projects managed by the Basic Skills Agency under Round 5 of the Adult and Community Learning Fund. The aim was to see if projects were succeeding in drawing in new learners to improve their basic skills, who would not have gone elsewhere, and whether they were actually making progress in learning literacy, numeracy or language skills. This study looked at 9 projects in detail, by interviewing staff and learners and investigating which approaches were effective. The team also analysed some statistical returns from other projects in Round 5.
